    Incoloy 925 Wire (UNS N09925)

    Cold-drawn wire, welding wire (INCO-WELD 725NDUR / AWS ERNiCrMo-15), lockwire (MS33540), spring wire

Incoloy 925 wire (UNS N09925) is cold-drawn small-section round product (typically 0.1 mm to 6 mm diameter, smaller than rods or bars) supplied in three primary forms: (1) bare cold-drawn wire for downstream forming + welding-electrode manufacture; (2) AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-15 welding wire matching INCO-WELD® 725NDUR for GTAW + GMAW joining of Incoloy 925 (see welding spec); and (3) lockwire / safety-wire for MS33540 aerospace + sour-service fastener-retention applications. Cold-drawing through dies imparts surface finish + dimensional precision (typically ±0.005 mm tolerance for fine wire below 1 mm) that hot-rolling cannot achieve. The cold-drawn condition introduces work hardening; subsequent solution anneal + age cycle (per heat-treatment specification) restores uniform metallurgy with the standard 110 ksi YS / 35 HRC NACE-cap properties. TorqBolt manufactures Incoloy 925 wire in 0.1 mm to 6 mm diameter, supplied as cut-length bundles (welding wire) or coils / spools (general / lockwire), with hardness controlled within the 35 HRC NACE MR0175 sour-service cap.

    Welding Wire Variant, AWS Reference

Welding wire form is the most-volume product supplied for matching-strength Incoloy 925 weld deposits:

    • AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-15, bare wire / rod for GTAW (TIG) + GMAW (MIG); matches INCO-WELD® 725NDUR chemistry
    • Diameters: 0.9 mm (.035"), 1.2 mm (.045"), 1.6 mm (1/16"), 2.4 mm (3/32"), 3.2 mm (1/8")
    • Supply form: spool (5 / 10 / 15 kg) for automatic / semi-automatic; cut-length 1 m bundles for manual TIG
    • Properties after PWHT: matches Incoloy 925 base metal, 165 ksi UTS / 110 ksi YS aged
    • Companion stick electrode: AWS A5.11 ENiCrMo-15 (coated electrode form for SMAW)

    Lockwire / Safety Wire (MS33540)

Lockwire form per MS33540 / NASM33540 / SAE AS567 is annealed (NOT aged) wire, supplied in coils for tying paired fasteners against rotation. Common diameters 0.020", 0.032", 0.041" (0.5 / 0.8 / 1.0 mm). Used in aerospace + sour-service applications where cotter-pin retention is impractical and where the assembly must be tamper-evident.

    Mechanical Properties

Annealed wire: Tensile ~110 ksi / Yield ~50 ksi / Elongation 30%. Aged wire: Tensile 165 ksi min / Yield 110 ksi min / Elongation 18% / Hardness 32–35 HRC (NACE cap). Welding wire is supplied in the ANNEALED condition (chemistry-only spec); the deposited weld metal develops aged properties only after the post-weld heat treatment cycle. See mech properties page.

    Manufacturing Sequence

    1. Hot-rolled rod input per ASTM B805 chemistry, ~6–8 mm starting diameter
    2. Cold drawing through diamond dies in successive reductions to final wire diameter (intermediate annealing as required to relieve cold work)
    3. Final solution anneal + age cycle per heat-treatment specification (NOTE: welding wire shipped annealed-only; lockwire shipped soft-annealed; aged condition only for finished general wire)
    4. Spool / coil / cut-length packaging
    5. Final inspection: diameter Go/No-Go, surface finish, sample tensile, sample hardness, AWS A5.14 chemistry compliance for welding wire
    6. Spool / coil marked with heat number + AWS designation + diameter + heat-lot identification

    Frequently Asked Questions

Welding wire vs INCO-WELD 725NDUR, same thing? Yes, INCO-WELD® 725NDUR is the trade name; AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-15 is the standard classification. Both refer to the same matching-composition filler used for joining Incoloy 925 to itself or to other nickel alloys.

Why is welding wire shipped annealed instead of aged? Welding wire is melted into the weld pool during welding, the supplied condition is irrelevant to the final weld metallurgy. Annealed condition gives better feed-ability through wire-feeders + better bend tolerance for spool packaging. The deposited weld develops aged properties via the post-weld heat-treatment cycle on the assembled part.

What's the difference between lockwire and tie-wire? Lockwire (MS33540 / safety wire) is a specific aerospace-grade soft-annealed wire optimized for tying paired fasteners against rotation. Tie-wire is a generic term for any flexible wire used to bind / secure components. Lockwire is the specialty form; tie-wire can be ordered as general cold-drawn annealed wire to customer-specific spec.

    Lead time? Standard welding wire (1.6 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm spool): 6–8 weeks. Cold-drawn general wire: 8–10 weeks. Lockwire MS33540: 8–10 weeks (aerospace-grade qualification). Custom diameters / spool weights: 10–14 weeks.
